Every year, summer fashion arrives with a new list of “must-have” trends. But this year feels a little different. Instead of completely replacing what we wore last summer, many of this season’s biggest trends are simply building on pieces we already own.
Which is great news for both our closets and our wallets.
Here are the trends I’m reaching for this summer, plus a few ways I’m planning to wear them.
The boho revival
Boho is officially back, but in a much more wearable way than its 2010s predecessor. Think flowy skirts, lace details, lightweight blouses, and soft, romantic fabrics.
I’ve been loving long cotton skirts paired with a simple tank top and sandals for weekend brunches, farmers’ markets, or a stroll through Old Montreal. For dinner, swap the tank for a lace-trim camisole and add some layered jewelry.
The best part is that many of us already own pieces that fit the trend without realizing it.

Butter yellow is sticking around
Last year’s favourite colour has earned itself a second summer.
Butter yellow somehow manages to feel both trendy and timeless. It’s soft enough to wear like a neutral but still adds a little something to an outfit.
A butter yellow dress is perfect for a summer wedding guest look, while a simple cardigan or tank can brighten up your everyday denim. I’ve also been seeing it paired with chocolate brown, which might be one of my favourite colour combinations right now.

Long skirts are still the MVP
If you’ve been living in satin, slip, or cotton maxi skirts over the last year, keep going.
Long skirts remain one of the easiest pieces to style because they work for almost every occasion. A satin skirt with a white t-shirt and ballet flats is perfect for the office. A cotton skirt with a tank top works for weekend errands. Throw on a denim jacket and suddenly you’re ready for happy hour.
As someone who owns more than one maxi skirt, I couldn’t be happier about this.

Capri pants are making a comeback
I know. Trust me, I had the same reaction.
But after seeing them styled a few different ways, I’m starting to understand the vision. The updated version feels cleaner and more polished than the early 2000s version many of us remember.
Pair them with an oversized button-down for work, or a fitted tank and sandals for a patio dinner. They might not be for everyone, but they’re definitely one of the most talked-about trends of the season.

Charm accessories are everywhere
One of the most fun trends this summer isn’t clothing at all.
Bag charms, ribbon details, personalized keychains, and playful accessories are showing up everywhere. It’s a simple way to make your outfits feel more personal without buying an entirely new wardrobe.
A basic tote suddenly feels more interesting with a few charms attached, and even a simple outfit of jeans and a tank feels a little more styled.

Fisherman sandals and ballet flats
When it comes to shoes, comfort is still winning.
Ballet flats continue to be a staple, while fisherman sandals have become one of the season’s biggest trends. Both work with everything from flowy skirts to tailored trousers and denim shorts.
I’ve been reaching for ballet flats during the workday and switching to sandals for weekends spent walking around the city. They’re practical, comfortable, and somehow make every outfit feel a little more chic.

What I love most about this summer’s trends is that they don’t require a complete wardrobe overhaul. Chances are you already own a long skirt, a lightweight blouse, a pair of ballet flats, or a simple linen piece that fits right in.
This summer feels less about chasing every new trend and more about making the most of what you already have. And honestly, after years of trend cycles moving at lightning speed, that feels pretty refreshing.
Love, Laura
