Every year around this time, I find myself writing about the same thing: white after Labour Day. And honestly? I’ll probably keep writing about it until the end of time, because it still feels like one of those “fashion rules” that people cling to, even though it’s been irrelevant for decades.
The idea that once September hits you need to tuck away your whites and reach only for “fall” tones? Outdated. Restrictive. Taboo in that way where you know it was made up to gatekeep who looked “acceptable” in society. (Fun fact: this rule was literally born out of old-money etiquette, not actual practicality. Imagine someone telling you your pants aren’t seasonally correct. Wild.)
But here’s the truth: white can be just as chic in November as it is in July. A creamy knit sweater, cream trousers with a good pair of boots, a structured white blazer — these are fall staples. Winter whites? Iconic. And don’t even get me started on how a crisp white dress layered with a chunky cardigan is basically the perfect September outfit.
So if you’re still hesitating when you reach for those white jeans, consider this your official permission slip. Wear them. Style them with deep browns, cherry reds, navy, or suede. Make them feel seasonal without following some outdated rule that was never made for us in the first place.

3 Ways to Style White After Labour Day
1. The Cozy Neutral Combo
Pair white wide-leg trousers with a chunky camel sweater and suede ankle boots. Add a plaid scarf and suddenly your outfit screams “pumpkin spice latte” season — but in a chic way.
2. The Preppy Twist
Take a crisp white mini or pleated skirt and style it with an oversized knit cardigan, loafers, and tall socks. Think Rory Gilmore on her way to class, but fashion-blogger edition.
3. The Elevated Everyday Look
Slip into white denim, throw on a tailored blazer (navy or deep brown works beautifully), and finish with riding boots or sneakers depending on your mood. A look that can go from coffee dates to actual dates without trying too hard.
Fashion should be fun. It should be expressive. And it should definitely not come with an expiration date stamped September 2nd.
So, how are you styling whites this season?
Love, Laura
