Lately I’ve been really into doing small things that make my everyday routine feel… nicer. Not life-changing, not Pinterest-perfect — just little habits that make me feel more like myself and less like I’m powering through the day on autopilot.
I’ll be working from home for the next little while, which sounds dreamy in theory, but staying motivated at home is a whole different skill. So I’ve been intentionally romanticizing my days a bit and treating the ordinary like it deserves more attention.
Here’s what’s been filling my cup lately:
Organizing + decorating my work desk
If I’m going to sit here all day, it has to feel good. I finally took the time to clean things up, move things around, and add a few cute touches. Nothing major — but it makes such a difference when your desk feels intentional instead of chaotic.
Getting dressed (even when I’m not leaving the house)
I’ve stopped telling myself “what’s the point” and started actually getting dressed in the morning. Even if I’m just sitting at my desk all day. It makes me feel put together, motivated, and ready to tackle the day the same way I would if I were going into the office. Turns out, outfits really do affect your mood.
Making fun lattes in a cute cup
I’ve been having way too much fun making lattes at home lately. Something about drinking coffee out of my Anthropologie icon glass just makes it better — like I’m at a café, but without leaving my kitchen. Highly recommend making your morning drink feel like a little moment.
Reading before work
Instead of immediately grabbing my phone, I’ve been reading a few pages of a book in the morning. Even 10 minutes feels grounding and helps me ease into the day without feeling rushed or overstimulated.
Lighting candles (yes, during the day)
I used to save candles for nighttime, but now I light one while I work and it instantly changes the vibe. It makes the day feel calmer and cozier, even when I’m just answering emails.
A fresh blowdry — for no reason at all
I don’t need plans. I don’t need somewhere to go. A fresh blowdry just makes me feel good. Sometimes that’s reason enough.
I’m realizing that filling your cup doesn’t have to mean big self-care moments or elaborate routines. Sometimes it’s just getting dressed, making a cute coffee, lighting a candle, and deciding that today deserves a little extra effort — even if it’s a regular, stay-at-home kind of day.
Love, Laura
