As we kick off 2025, I can’t help but think back to a blog post I wrote in November 2023 about how you’re not running out of time. It was a reminder that your timeline is your own and that you don’t have to hit every milestone by a specific age. But honestly? This is a message we all need to hear more than once—especially as a new year begins and the pressure to “have it all together” feels stronger than ever.
Your 20s are this weird, wonderful in-between stage. You’re figuring out who you are, what you want, and how to pay rent while still treating yourself to $7 lattes. And while it sometimes feels like you’re supposed to have your entire life mapped out by now, let me tell you: that’s just not realistic. But here’s the truth: you’re not late, and you’re not falling behind. Life isn’t a race.

The “By Now” Myth
By now, we’re supposed to have it all figured out, right? A steady career, a perfect relationship, maybe even a skincare routine that actually works. But the truth is, there’s no magic checklist for life in your 20s, and nobody has it all together—even if it looks like they do on social media.
The whole “by now” narrative is exhausting because it assumes we all want the same things at the same pace. Newsflash: we don’t. Some people are laser-focused on their careers, while others are prioritizing travel, friendships, or just trying to get through the week without burning out. All of those paths are valid.
The Social Media Trap
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: social media. It’s so easy to feel behind when you’re scrolling through highlight reels of people’s lives. Engagement photos, job promotions, luxury vacations—they make it look like everyone is thriving 24/7. But what you don’t see are the struggles, sacrifices, and meltdowns that happen behind the scenes.
Remember: someone else’s timeline doesn’t make yours less valuable. You’re not competing with anyone.
Success Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All
Here’s the thing about your 20s: it’s the perfect time to figure out what success looks like for you. Maybe it’s moving up in your career, maybe it’s creating more space for hobbies, or maybe it’s just finding a better work-life balance. Success doesn’t have to mean ticking off big milestones—it can also mean prioritizing your happiness and mental health.
Trust the Messiness
Your 20s are supposed to be messy. They’re about trial and error, making mistakes, and learning what works for you. Don’t let the pressure to “have it all together” rob you of the experiences that make this decade so special.
If you’re unsure about your next steps, that’s okay. You don’t have to have a perfect five-year plan. Sometimes, the best things happen when you’re not obsessing over what’s next.
Celebrate Where You Are
Instead of focusing on what you haven’t done yet, take a moment to appreciate everything you have accomplished. Maybe you got through a tough work project, finally started therapy, or learned how to make a killer pasta dish. These small wins add up, and they deserve to be celebrated.
You’re Not Late—You’re On Time
The best advice I ever heard was this: “You’re exactly where you need to be.” It’s cheesy, but it’s true. Your life isn’t supposed to look like anyone else’s. Your building your own story, not rushing to keep up with someone else’s.
So, if you’re feeling behind, remember this: You’re not running out of time. You’re just getting started, and the best is yet to come. Keep trusting your own path—because it’s leading you exactly where you’re meant to be.
Love, Laura
