For some of us, fall is the best time of year—cozy sweaters, vibrant foliage, and pumpkin-flavored everything. But for others, the drop in temperature and shorter days can bring on the fall blues. After the high energy of summer, it’s not uncommon to feel a bit down as we transition into autumn. If you’re someone who struggles with the seasonal shift, don’t worry! There are plenty of ways to fight those fall blues and embrace the season.
Here are my top tips to help you adjust and find joy in the crisp, cool months ahead.
Get Outside
One of the best parts of fall is the beautiful foliage. Spending time outdoors can be a great mood booster, especially when you’re surrounded by the vibrant colors of changing leaves. Go for a hike, take a walk in the park, or plan a weekend road trip to explore the countryside. The fresh air and natural beauty can lift your spirits and help you feel more connected to the season.
Set New Goals
Fall is often associated with fresh starts, similar to the back-to-school vibe from childhood. Use this time to set new goals or revisit ones that may have fallen to the side over summer. Whether it’s a fitness routine, a creative project, or professional aspirations, setting a goal for the season can give you a renewed sense of purpose and excitement for the months ahead.
Stay Active
It’s easy to become more sedentary as the temperatures drop, but staying active can help fight off the blues. Whether you head to the gym, take up yoga, or go for brisk walks, regular exercise is a proven mood enhancer. Moving your body releases endorphins, the “feel-good” hormones, and can help maintain energy levels that often dip in the fall.
Plan Small Adventures
Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. Plan small fall adventures to look forward to, like weekend getaways, apple picking, or visiting a local pumpkin patch. Even planning movie nights or cozy afternoons with friends can give you something to anticipate and keep your social life active.
Practice Self-Care
As the pace of life slows down in the fall, it’s a perfect time to focus on self-care. Whether it’s taking long baths, journaling, meditating, or getting into a regular skincare routine, these little acts of self-care can go a long way in boosting your mood. Make time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation—especially when the fall blues start creeping in.
Redecorate Your Space
Sometimes, changing your environment can change your outlook. Redecorating your space for fall can help you embrace the season. Swap out summer décor for richer, autumnal tones—think deep oranges, browns, and golds. Add some cozy throw blankets, festive fall wreaths, and warm lighting to make your home feel like a seasonal sanctuary.

The fall blues don’t have to take over after the summer highs. With a few small adjustments to your routine and mindset, you can embrace everything autumn has to offer—from cozy days to colorful outdoor adventures. Remember, each season brings its own opportunities for joy, and fall can be just as rewarding if you let it. So, grab your favorite sweater, step outside, and enjoy everything this season has in store!
What’s your favourite fall activity? Mine is definitely watching the leaves change.
Love, Laura
