Being single in your 20s can be both liberating and challenging. This decade of life is often filled with personal growth, self-discovery and exciting opportunities. However, it’s not without its hurdles, especially when society places certain expectations on young adults to be in committed relationships.
In this blog post, we’ll explore the ups and downs of single life in your 20s, discussing society’s expectations and the double standards that single individuals often face.
The double Standard
Being single in this phase of life often comes with its fair share of raised eyebrows and puzzled looks. While those in relationships may receive applause for their commitment, single individuals might find themselves subjet to unwanted labels. It’s essential to challenge these biases and recognize that being single should never be a source of judgement or shame. Whether you’re riding solo or cozying up with a partner, your worth is never dictated by your relationship status. and if you are single, embrace your single status with pride and refuce to let anyone define your worth based on your relationship status.
date yourself instead
i’ll never not advocate for this — even if you are in a relationship, it is truly so important. when you put the energy into yourself and do the things that bring you joy, it makes being single that much better. this is your time to be selfish, get to know yourself and nurture your friendships. those are the people who are going to keep showing up for you — yourself included! so don’t forget to show up as your highest self every damn day.
Embracing singlehood with a positive mindset can lead to meaningful personal growth and a healthier approach to future relationships. remember that being single doesn’t mean you’re incomplete or lacking in any way, it’s simply a chapter in your life’s journey.
the dating circus / hook up culture
if you do decide to go on dates, let it be fun and exciting not a quest for validation. stay open-minded and don’t let the pressure get to you. dating should be about having fun, meeting interesting people, and enjoying the process without fretting about finding “the one” right away. remember, you are not on a mission to prove anything to anyone.
there’s a love-hate relationship with hookup culture because of the way it has changed the dating game. window shopping has become more common (among both men and women) and therefore they’re afraid to commit. if you do decide to partake (no one’s judging), just remember the 3 c’s: consent, condoms and communication.
focus on cultivating self-love and when the time is right, the right person will come along, appreciating you for who you are. remember, being single in your 20s can be a beautiful and transformative experience — savour every moment.
Love, laura
